A Hindu temple in Sheffield dedicated to Lord Shiva as Sri Viswanathar with Sivakami Amman, created by and for the community across Yorkshire. Everyone is welcome to worship, celebrate and learn with us.

About us

A place of worship for all of Yorkshire

Yorkshire Sivan Temple is the working name of the Yorkshire Sivan Trust (YST), a registered charity (number 1218845) founded in 2025 to advance Hindu traditions in Yorkshire for the benefit of the public.

The Trust grew out of the Yorkshire Hindu community, which has organised Thai Pongal, Deepavali and Saraswati Pooja celebrations for many years. Our temple at the Arbourthorne Centre in Sheffield is now being renovated as a permanent home for worship, festivals, teaching and community life.

Our mission

To advance Hindu traditions in Yorkshire for the benefit of the public through worship, religious observance, festivals, teaching, cultural activities and community engagement.

What we offer

Worship, celebration and learning

Our activities are open to everyone who wishes to attend, whether you have come to worship or simply to learn more about Hindu traditions.

Daily worship
Once the temple opens, pooja will be held three times a day, every day: mantras, offerings, devotional singing, readings from the scriptures and a period of meditation.
Religious functions
Archanai, abhishekam and special poojas for birthdays, anniversaries and family occasions. Contact the temple office to arrange.
Festivals
Public celebrations throughout the year, including Thai Pongal, Maha Shivaratri, Navaratri, Saraswati Pooja and Deepavali.
Community activities
Shared meals, open-house days for neighbours and volunteering (seva) that bring families across Yorkshire together.
Youth activities
Opportunities for young people to learn devotional music, take part in festivals and grow in confidence through seva.
Education programmes
Talks and classes on Hindu beliefs, scriptures and practice, including yoga and meditation as spiritual disciplines.

Renovation appeal

Be part of a sacred legacy

For the first time in Yorkshire, a Sri Viswanathar with Sivakami Amman Shiva temple is being established. The sanctum sanctorum (Moolasthanam) and temple flagstaff (Kodimaram) are being built as a collective community effort. Every contribution, large or small, helps complete this lasting offering of devotion.
